Early Life and Education

Charlie Puth was born on December 2, 1991, in Rumson, New Jersey, United States. His mother, Debra Puth, is of Jewish descent, and his father, Charles Puth, has German ancestry. Charlie developed an early interest in music and began musical training as a child. He took piano lessons and studied jazz at the Manhattan School of Music Pre-College. He later attended Berklee College of Music, where he graduated with a degree in Music Production and Engineering.

Rise Through YouTube and Independent Releases

Puth started his career by launching a YouTube channel, where he uploaded acoustic covers of popular songs. His talent gained attention in 2011 when he won an online video competition. That same year, he was briefly signed to the label eleveneleven, founded by Ellen DeGeneres. In 2012, he performed at a DKMS Delete Blood Cancer event, supporting the world’s largest bone marrow donor center.

Musical Breakthrough and Mainstream Success

After parting ways with eleveneleven, Puth signed a new record deal with Atlantic Records. Before gaining mainstream recognition, he released two independent albums: The Otto Tunes (2010) and Ego (2013). Songs like “Some Type of Love” and “One Call Away” helped build his early fanbase.

Puth’s breakthrough came in 2015 with “See You Again,” a tribute to actor Paul Walker performed in collaboration with rapper Wiz Khalifa. The song achieved massive international success, topping the charts in numerous countries and surpassing one billion views on YouTube.
