Early Life and Education

Christopher David Noth, known professionally as Chris Noth, was born on November 13, 1954, in Madison, Wisconsin. His parents were Jeanne Parr, a CBS news correspondent, and Charles Noth, an insurance salesman. After his father's death when Chris was very young, his mother relocated the family to various countries including the United Kingdom, Yugoslavia, and Spain.

Noth attended Marlboro College in Vermont for three years as an undergraduate. He later earned a Master of Fine Arts from the Yale School of Drama, where he also gained practical acting experience.

Acting Career and Breakthrough Roles

Chris Noth’s acting career began with minor roles in independent films such as Smithereens and Baby Boom. In 1988, he appeared in the low-budget film Peluru dan Wanita. His early television work included a part on the soap opera Another World.

He rose to prominence as Detective Mike Logan on the television series Law & Order and later reprised the role on Law & Order: Criminal Intent. Noth is also widely recognized for his iconic portrayal of Mr. Big, the romantic interest of Carrie Bradshaw, on HBO’s hit series Sex and the City, a role he played for six seasons. His performance earned him a Golden Globe nomination. In 2009, he joined Juliana Margulies in the CBS series The Good Wife, which premiered on September 22 of that year.

Theater Accomplishments

In addition to his film and television work, Noth has a background in theater. He received critical acclaim for his performance in Broadway’s The Best Man, for which he won a Theatre World Award in 2001 for Outstanding Broadway Debut.
