While the son is a screenwriter, his mother and father were both actors. Eric has starred in 120 different roles in many of his earliest credits being under his birth name Hans Gudegast. With his most recognizable role being at the beginning of his career as Captain Hans Dietrich in Rat Patrol of 1966- 68, but had played in many similar roles previous to this.

During the 60’s Eric played in TV’s longest running World War II drama from 1962- 67 Combat! In 1965 he appeared in the film Morituri and guest starred in The Man From U.N.C.L.E.  agent Mr. Oakes in The Discotheque  Affair.

Each one of these roles portrayed him as a German soldier. It was when he had achieved the starring role in Colossus: The Forbin Project of 1970 that Lew Wasserman of Universal Pictures told him that no one would be allowed to star in an American film if they had a German name, this was where Eric changed his name. Taking his name Braeden from his hometown Bredenbek, he now has the name we all know him as.

In 1970 Eric played the role of primary Antagonist, Dr. Otto Hasslein in Escape from the Planet of the Apes 1971 and Walt Disney’s 1977 Herbie Goes to Monte Carlo. Throughout the 70’s Eric guest starred in a variety of Television shows including The Six Million Dollar Man, Wonder Woman, CBS’s western series Gunsmoke and The Mary Tyler Moore Show.

In 1980, Eric was offered a role on the daytime soap opera, The Young and Restless for 26 weeks. Playing the role of a character imprisoning his wife, he quickly became a love to hate villain with his unique personality that he portrayed. On October 18, 2009, after almost 30 years, Eric left The Young and Restless however on November 2, 2009, he decided to come back for another three years. In February 2017, Eric celebrated his 37th year with the show.

Another notable role, was Eric’s character Colonel John Jacob Astor IV in 1997’s Blockbuster Titanic sharing a strong resemblance to the character he portrayed. Openly admitting that the scene of his character drowning was one of the scariest moment in his acting career. Eric has won one Emmy in 1998 and a People’s Choice Awards in 1992 for again The Young And Restless but has been nominated for many more.

Dalle has plans to write a book about their life and marriage but it is still in the works.
