David Boreanaz

Early Life and Education

David Boreanaz was born on May 16, 1969, in Buffalo, New York, and spent much of his childhood in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He is the son of Patti Boreanaz, a travel agent, and Dave Roberts (born David Thomas Boreanaz), a retired weatherman for WPVI-TV, the ABC affiliate in Philadelphia. Of Italian and Slovak descent, the Boreanaz surname traces its roots to the border region of Italy dating back to the 1600s. Linguistically, it is believed to have a Slovenian counterpart in the name “Berginc.” Raised Roman Catholic, David attended Malvern Preparatory School in Malvern, Pennsylvania, and later graduated from Ithaca College in Ithaca, New York, with a degree in cinema and photography.

Early Interests and Athletic Pursuits

Growing up, David was deeply affected by school bullying, which reportedly helped fuel his competitive spirit. At Malvern Prep, he played football as both an offensive end and defensive back. He was also an enthusiastic hockey fan and remained active in sports through college. As a child, he served as a ball boy for the Pittsburgh Steelers and once had the opportunity to train with legendary linebacker Jack Lambert. Despite his athletic inclinations, Boreanaz chose to pursue a career in acting following his college graduation.

Start of an Acting Career

After relocating to Hollywood, David took on several odd jobs, including working as a parking attendant, house painter, towel handler at a sports club, and assistant in a props department. His entry into acting was unconventional. As he recounted in a 2006 interview with Smoke Magazine, he was walking his dog when a talent scout approached him on the street. This encounter eventually led to his first management and acting opportunities.

Breakthrough Roles and Television Success

David's first credited television appearance came in 1993 with a guest role on the sitcom Married with Children. His breakthrough role came shortly afterward as the brooding vampire Angel in the cult TV hit Buffy the Vampire Slayer, which later led to the successful spin-off series Angel.

In 2005, David began starring as FBI Special Agent Seeley Booth in the long-running procedural drama Bones. Over its 12-season run, Boreanaz expanded his contributions to the show by directing multiple episodes and serving as a producer beginning in the third season. He also lent his voice to several video games, underscoring his versatility as a performer.

SEAL Team and Continued Television Prominence

David Boreanaz currently stars in the CBS military drama SEAL Team, portraying Jason Hayes, the leader of a Tier 1 special operations unit. The show explores the dual pressures of combat and home life, providing insight into the personal challenges elite soldiers face. In 2017, CBS gave the series a full-season order, affirming the show’s popularity and Boreanaz's central role in its success.

Personal Life and Relationships

David had several relationships prior to and following marriage. He dated Catalina Guirado in the 1990s and later married Ingrid Quinn in 1997; they divorced in 1999. Around this time, rumors circulated about a possible relationship with his Buffy co-star Sarah Michelle Gellar, although this was never confirmed.

In 2000, David met actress and model Jaime Bergman at a Valentine’s Day party. After dating for over a year, they became engaged in August 2001 and married on November 24, 2001. The couple has two children together—a son and a daughter.
