In 2013, Gates was found dating his current girlfriend, Faye Brookes, a theater star. Even before the separation, he was seen with Faye on a late night date. Gates wanted to stay as close to Moles as possible to have a better relationship with his daughter. Moles got the custody of the daughter.

Moles ended the relationship with her husband when she came to know about his affair with Fayes. Pictures of Gates walking out of Fayes apartment started the separation. A few years ago, he was rumored to have a relationship with a 19 year old co-star, Katie Hall. Though Moles was very angry with the behavior of Gates, she did not have any concrete proof about his relationship with Hall. The picture of Gates, walking out of Faye’s apartment, around midnight pushed Moles towards separation. Things were not right between the couple when Moles came to know about his first extra-marital relationship with 19 years old Hills, two years ago. Moles decided to put through all the issues for the sake of her daughter. Gates walked over the line with Fayes and she decided not to take it anymore.

Moles said that she gave him another chance when she came to know about his relationship with Hall. However, Gates took this to his advantage and started to create a relationship with Fayes. Many people saw them cuddling for pictures and they headed off to a nearby pub for a few drinks. A few pictures were also taken in the pub. Later, they walked under one umbrella to his car and they sped to her apartment. Gates and Fayes have adjoining rooms on the set and Fayes was always found in Gates’ room. The co-actor found it very difficult to cope when Moles came to visit them on set.
