Early Life and Education

Glenne Headly, an American actress, was born on March 13, 1955, in New London, Connecticut. During her early years, she lived with her mother in San Francisco and later with her grandmother in Pennsylvania. While in elementary school, she reunited with her mother in New York City, where she attended public schools, including P.S. 41. Recognized for her intelligence, Headly was placed in classes for gifted children.

She also pursued her interest in dance, attending ballet school in New York City. Headly graduated with honors in drama from high school. Although she initially considered attending art school, she eventually enrolled at the American College in Leysin, Switzerland, where she completed her bachelor’s degree.

Personal Life and Marital Status

In 1982, Headly married actor John Malkovich. The marriage ended in divorce in 1990. Three years later, in 1993, she married Byron McCulloch. Together, they had one child. Headly often expressed that her family was her top priority, and she enjoyed a fulfilling personal life with her husband and child.

Early Theater Career and Steppenwolf Theater

Passionate about acting from a young age, Headly moved back to New York City after completing her education in Switzerland. There, she worked as a waitress by day while performing in theater productions at night.

Her theater career gained momentum when she moved to Chicago, where she joined the New Works/Ensemble Theater, later known as the St. Nicholas Theater Company. She appeared in several successful productions, including Curse of the Starving Class. Her compelling performance caught the attention of the Goodman Theatre, which led to her being invited to join the prestigious Steppenwolf Theatre Company in 1979. She remained an active member of Steppenwolf through 2005, contributing significantly to its respected reputation.
