Heath Miller

Early Life and High School Career

Heath Miller was born in Virginia and raised in Swords Creek. He attended Honaker High School, where he excelled as a multi-sport athlete. As the quarterback for the Honaker Tigers football team, he earned Associated Press Player of the Year honors as a senior and was named a two-time AP All-State selection. In addition to first-team All-Southwest Virginia recognition as a quarterback, he was also selected second-team All-State as a defensive back and earned Region D Offensive Player of the Year accolades.

In his senior year, Miller led Honaker High School to its first-ever state championship game appearance, although the team ultimately lost to King William High School. He set several school records for passing during his high school career.

Multi-Sport Athleticism

Aside from football, Miller showcased his athletic talent in other sports. He played first base on the baseball team, where he earned honors as a member of the All-Black Diamond District team, as well as All-Region and All-State selections. On the basketball court, he played forward and was recognized with All-District and All-Region honors.

College Career at the University of Virginia

Miller attended the University of Virginia, where he played under head coach Al Groh for the Virginia Cavaliers football team. Originally recruited as a quarterback, he transitioned to the tight end position during his redshirt freshman year. After sitting out the 2001 season, he started every game in 2002 as a tight end.

In his debut game against Colorado State, Miller recorded four receptions for 42 yards and a touchdown. He went on to score at least one touchdown in each of the first five games that season. During his college career, he set multiple school records for a tight end and led tight ends in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) in receptions. He earned All-American honors and was widely recognized as one of the best college tight ends nationally.
