Heather Locklear, born in 1961, is an American actress known for her prominent roles in television drama and comedy. She was born in the Westwood district of Los Angeles, California, and is the youngest of four children. Her mother, Diane, worked as a production executive at Disney, and her father, William Robert Locklear, served as an administrator at UCLA. Raised in the Greater Los Angeles area, Locklear graduated from Newbury Park High School. She has Native American ancestry, specifically from the Lumbee tribe.

Education and Entry into Entertainment

Locklear attended the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), where she pledged the Delta Delta Delta and Chi Omega sororities, though she was never officially initiated into either. During her college years, she began modeling and appeared in commercials for the campus store. Her early acting roles were small appearances on television shows such as CHiPs, 240-Robert, and Eight Is Enough.

Breakthrough with Aaron Spelling Productions

Locklear's career took a significant turn when she began a long-term collaboration with television producer Aaron Spelling. Spelling first cast her in the role of Sammy Jo Carrington in the second season of the hit series Dynasty. A year later, she was also cast as Officer Stacy Sheridan in the police drama T.J. Hooker, co-starring William Shatner. By 1985, Locklear became a full-time cast member of Dynasty and remained with the series until it ended in 1989. She later reprised her role in the 1991 television miniseries Dynasty: The Reunion.

Television Success and Golden Globe Nominations

Locklear gained widespread acclaim for her portrayal of Amanda Woodward in the primetime drama series Melrose Place. Her performance earned her four consecutive Golden Globe nominations for Best Actress in a Television Series – Drama. She also starred as Caitlin Moore in the political sitcom Spin City, a role that brought her two additional Golden Globe nominations for Best Actress in a Television Series – Musical or Comedy.

In addition to her major television successes, Locklear had recurring roles on other series. These include her part on the TV Land sitcom Hot in Cleveland and her main role in the TNT comedy-drama series Franklin & Bash in 2013.
