Hilary Labow, better known as Hilary Farr, was born on June 16, 1962, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. She grew up in London, England in the United Kingdom. She returned to Canada for her studies and attended Ryerson University. In this public university located in Ontario, she studied Interior Design.

Afterward, she moved to the United States to work part-time jobs in the city of Los Angeles. Her work consisted of renovating some television show sets and interior of houses. She also bought various properties of her own and renovated them.

Acting Roles

Hilary Labow had small appearances in various movies from both the United Kingdom and the United States. Her debut was in 1972 in the film Layout for 5 Models, it was directed by John Gaudioz, a director that has only one other title to his name. The year that followed, she participated in a British cult film with the title, Sex Farm. It was directed by Arnold Louis Miller. The same year she participated in a British comedy that was a spin-off of a television series of the same name: Never Mind the Quality Feel the Width. It was directed by Ronnie Baxter.

In 1975 she had a part in a horror movie produced by British Tyburn Film Productions. The movie, Legend of the Werewolf, was slightly based on Guy Endore‘s novel A werewolf in Paris. It starred Peter Cushing and was directed by Freddie Francis. That film was only released on VHS. Also, during that year, she had a role in the cult classic The Rocky Horror Picture Show, a British-American musical film directed by Jim Sharman. She worked alongside Tim Curry, Susan Sarandon, Barry Bostwick, and musician Michael Lee Aday.

In 1979, she worked on another film: City on Fire. This was a B movie that attempted to depict a real-life disaster. It reflected in the industrial accident that occurred in Texas. The movie was directed by Alvin Rakoff and featured Henry Fonda, Ava Gardner, Leslie Nielsen, and Shelley Winters. The year that followed was her last onscreen appearance. It was in a science fiction film directed by Greydon Clark. The movie was not very successful and was released only on television and video.

Design Work

During her design career, Hilary Farr designed many properties all around the world. She worked in the major cities of California and New York. Outside of the United States, she made designs in Britain and in Australia. She resided in all those locations at one time in her life. She founded her own interior design company in 2001. She is currently the president of Hilary Farr Design. The company is established both in New York and in Toronto.

In 2008, she returned back to her home of Toronto, Canada. Labow started to host her own show alongside co- host David Visentin. It was a design show produced by Big Coat Production. The name of it was Love it or List it. It was based in Toronto, but since 2014 they have started to film also in California. It was aired on the Oprah Winfrey Network, Home & Garden Television, and W Network. She also worked as a judge in Search for the Next W Expert 2010.
