Imogen Poots was born in 1989, June 3 in London, England. Her father Trevor works in Northern Ireland as a TV producer and her mother Fiona is a journalist. The actress also has one sibling – her brother Alex works as a model. Imogen spent her childhood and teen years in private schools and her dream was to become a veterinarian. However, things changed when she joined improvisation group and fell in love with acting. The final nail in the coffin for her vet career was when she fainted during a surgery. She could not work in an environment with blood in it.

Career

The first time she appeared on the screen on television was Casualty, a medical drama on BBC One. Poots played a small role of Alice Thornton. Her first appearance on the big screen was in one of the best movies of 2006 – V for Vendetta. James McTeigue's creation was a huge success. It won many awards and got a lot of nominations. Poots played Young Valerie.

Her first big break was in 2007, when she was cast in post-apocalyptic sci-fi horror movie 28 Weeks Later. The movie made over 64 million dollars in the Box Office and was considered to be a big hit. The actress played a role of Tammy Harris and was working alongside great actors like Robert Carlyle, Rose Byrne, and Idris Elba. This was a fantastic achievement for a 17-year-old and it opened the door to the world of acting for her. During the period of 2008 to 2015, the British actress starred in over twenty different movies including Neil Marshall's Centurion and Tom Gormican's That Awkward Moment. Her most recent memorable performance was in 2014 when she played a car broker Julia Maddon in Scott Waugh's action movie Need for Speed. Poots worked with Breaking Bad star Aaron Paul, Michael Keaton, and Dominic Cooper. The movie got recognition and was a Box Office success making over 200 million dollars worldwide.

In 2016, the actress is set to appear in a comedy written by The Lonely Island trio called Conner4Real and Roadies, a new television drama series on Showtime.

Despite the fact that the actress is still rather new in the acting world, she already got some recognition in terms of awards and nominations. In 2007, she was nominated by British Independent Film Awards as a Most Promising Newcomer for her role in 28 Weeks Later. In 2012, she won Hamptons International Film Festival award for a breakthrough performance in Knight of Cups. And finally, in 2013, she won British Independent Film Award for Best Supporting Actress in The Look of Love.
