Katherine Grace McNamara is an American actress, dancer, and singer-songwriter, best known for her portrayal of Clary Fray in the television series Shadowhunters: The Mortal Instruments. She was born on November 22, 1995, in Kansas City, Missouri.

Exceptionally advanced academically, McNamara completed many high school requirements at an early age. She graduated from Drexel University’s LeBow College of Business with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration by the age of 17 through an accelerated online program. She is currently pursuing a Master of Science degree in Applied Economics from Johns Hopkins University.

Acting Career

McNamara began her professional acting career at the age of 13, debuting on stage in the Broadway production of Stephen Sondheim’s A Little Night Music, where she performed alongside Catherine Zeta-Jones and Angela Lansbury. Her early entrance into the performing arts set the tone for a dynamic and evolving career.

On television, her breakout role came as Clary Fray in Freeform’s Shadowhunters, a role that earned her widespread recognition. For her performance, she was awarded the 2018 People’s Choice Award for Female TV Star of the Year, solidifying her place among top female television actresses.
