Kristin Chenoweth

Early Life and Education

Kristin Chenoweth, an acclaimed American actress and singer, was born on July 24, 1968. She was adopted at the age of five by Junie Smith Chenoweth and Jerry Morris Chenoweth and raised in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. Chenoweth graduated from Broken Arrow High School and went on to attend Oklahoma City University, where she majored in musical theatre. She earned a master’s degree in opera performance from Oklahoma City University in 1992.

While at university, Chenoweth participated in numerous beauty pageants, earning titles such as "Miss OCU" and placing as second runner-up in the "Miss Oklahoma" pageant in 1991. During a trip to New York in 1993, she auditioned for the musical Animal Crackers and was cast as Arabella Rittenhouse. This performance marked the beginning of her professional theatre career.

Theatre and Broadway Breakthrough

Chenoweth gained prominence in Broadway productions following her debut in Steel Pier (1997), in which she played Precious McGuire. For her performance, she received a Theatre World Award. In 1998, she appeared in the musicals Strike Up the Band and A New Brain.

Her breakout role came in 1999 when she portrayed Sally Brown in You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown. This role earned her both the Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in a Musical and the Drama Desk Award. Chenoweth later returned to Broadway in 2003 to star as Glinda the Good Witch in the original production of Wicked. She concluded her run in Wicked in July 2004.
