Lindsay Whalen

In the Eastern Conference in her 2008 season, Lindsay Whalen and her young team won second place. Only second to Candace Parker, Whalen was the Most Valuable Player runner up. The Lynx reached their first WNBA Championship in 2011 due to Lindsay Whalen and the support of Renee Montgomery, Seimone Augustus, Rebekkah Brunson, and rookie Maya Moore. Completing the season at 27-7, the Lynx had the second best franchise history record, along with the best record in the league.
    
 Lindsay Whalen and Janel McCarville were reunited as teammates in 2013 when with a three team trade, the Minnesota Lynx gained Janel. Lindsay was only the second player alongside Becky Hammon, in the history of the WNBA to score 1,500 assists, 4,000 points, and 1,000 rebounds. In terms of league history, Whalen was player number 20 to achieve 4,000 points. Named for the fifth time in 2015, Lindsay Whalen acquired the title of a WMBA All-Star. That year, back to the finals went the Lynx. Rematching, the Lynx and the Indiana Fever battled it out to a result of a final score of 3-2 with the Lynx beating the Fever won the championship. This was the third the Lynx won in a period of five years.

In the Lynx 2016 season, having been limited to under a half hour of time playing in every game, she managed to even out at 9.8 ppg. The Lynx finished that year with a best 28-6 franchise record and had remained a championship contending team. The Lynx offered Whalen a multi-year contract extension prior to the playoffs. The Lynx went on to the WNBA finals for the fifth time in a period of just six years, and making the most in league history appearances, Whalen appeared for the seventh time. 

In the 2016 season, she played for at most 30 minutes every game and has an average of 9.8 points per game with a higher shooting in her goal percentage. Lynx continued as a contending team in the championing and finished with 28-6 for a franchise team. Lynx was seeded number 1 according to the new WNBA playoff format. They were triumphant over the Mercury in all 3 games and reaching the final. This final made is five out of six. In the final, they were beaten by Los Angeles Spark, who were from the same conference with them. This became history, as both team from the same conference meeting in the finals. Whalen went on to battle it out with the Lynx against the Sparks up until game five with a final score of 77-76. Whalen missed the game winning shot attempt at 3 seconds left in the game. In 2017, Whalen suffered a hand injury that caused her to miss 12 games. She had surgery in August of 2017 to repair the hand, but was ruled out after that. She returned in time for the WNBA finals and the Lynx defeated the Sparks winning their fourth WNBA Championship.  

While her basketball career was successful and brilliant in all of its accomplishments, her personal life is somewhat of a mystery. Marrying Ben Grieve, a golf star at University of Minnesota in October 2007, Ben is rumored to be her college boyfriend. Her personal life seems to be effectively kept on the down low, as not much information is publicly available pertaining to it. Ben always stood in the shadows, never uttering a word to the media about their personal life together. However, what we do know is that her family lives on her annual salary of $330,000, and her estimated net worth to date is around $3,630,000. From the looks of it today, Lindsay and Ben intend to keep their personal lives private, away from the public eye.
