Early Life and Education

Elizabeth Kate “Liz” Claman was born on December 12, 1963, in Beverly Hills, California, to Canadian parents. Raised in a Jewish family, she is one of five siblings. Her mother, June Beverly Claman, is an actress of Romanian descent, and her father, the late Dr. Morris Claman, was a world-renowned urologist and an associate clinical professor of urology at the UCLA School of Medicine.

Liz attended Beverly Hills High School and later studied at Phillips Academy in Andover, Massachusetts, where she served as a disc jockey for the school’s radio station. In college, she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in French from the University of California, Berkeley, and also received the Certificat Supérieur de Français from the Sorbonne in Paris.

Claman’s long-time friend Claudia Cowan, a reporter for Fox News, has known her since the second grade.

Television Career

Claman began her career in television as a production assistant at KCBS-TV in Los Angeles, working with Paula Zahn, Ann Curry, and Jim Lampley. She then moved into on-air reporting at WSYX-TV in Columbus, Ohio. Later, she hosted the morning talk show Morning Exchange on WEWS-TV in Cleveland and worked as a weekend anchor at WHDH-TV in Boston.

Her national television career gained traction at CNBC, where she co-anchored several programs including Morning Call, Wake Up Call, and briefly, Market Watch. She also hosted CNBC’s newsmagazine program Cover to Cover. Claman served as a substitute anchor on The News with Brian Williams shortly before Williams left MSNBC in 2004 for NBC News.

Liz Claman currently anchors Countdown to the Closing Bell on the Fox Business Network, airing weekdays at 3 p.m. Known for her comprehensive financial journalism, she is widely regarded as one of television’s top business news anchors. Since joining Fox, she has conducted numerous high-profile interviews and has played a vital role in the network's financial coverage.
