She is the daughter of Margaret Polga Hinkle, who is a Justice of The Superior Court of Massachusetts and of Rodney Hinkle who is a college dean and also a teacher and they met when he was serving in the Peace Corps. The family went to live in Boston of Massachusetts at the age of four months. After only 2 years, her brother was born and he is Mark. She graduated from Newton South High School and attended Tisch School of the Arts under New York University.
