Mark Halperin was born into a Jewish Family on January 11, 1965, in New York City and was raised by his parents Morton and Ina Halperin. Shortly after his birth, Halperin and his family moved to Bethesda Maryland where they would raise young Mark.
Halperin would go on to attend Walt Whitman High School. In 1982, Halperin went to live with a family in Japan while he was in the Youth for Understanding program. After graduating from high school and returning from Japan, Halperin was accepted into Harvard University where he received a Bachelor of Arts in 1987.
Halperin got off to a start in the television industry in 1988 when he started out as a desk assistant for ABC News. When he doing assistant work for ABC, Halperin was busy researching for the company's show "World News Tonight." After four years with ABC News, Halperin had become a full-time off-air producer and covered the presidential campaign of Bill Clinton in 1992.
Two years later, Halperin was promoted to be a producer with ABC's special events unit in New York. He later added editorial producer to his list of duties at ABC where he was now nearly a 10-year veteran. In 1997, Halperin was promoted to be the political director for ABC News. Even while working as a director, Halperin would still frequently work as a correspondent and political analyst for ABC News.
Halperin eventually founded and edited "The Note", a daily summary of political and trending news stories. In 2006, Halperin became a board member of the New Hampshire Institute of Politics at Saint Anselm College which was located in the town of Goffstown. He has been a board member since its inception in 2008. Halperin maintained a good business relationship with ABC and in March of 2007, he became a political analyst for ABC News. David Chalian replaced him as political director at this time.
In May of 2007, Halperin became a political analyst for Time magazine. After nearly five years with Time magazine, Halperin took a position at MSNBC as a senior political analyst. In 2011, he received his own iPad app called "Mark Halperin 2012". The app contained behind the scenes photos, videos, breaking news, and commentary from Halperin himself. Aside from his fruitful career in television and news, Halperin is also a successful author.
In 2010, Halperin along with John Heilemann wrote "Game Change: Obama and the Clintons, McCain, and Palin, and the Race of a Lifetime." The book was turned into a movie by HBO called "Game Change". The film premiered on March 20, 2012, and Halperin even had a cameo in the movie as a reporter. Halperin and his co-author released the second book in 2012 about the election year titled "Double Down: Game Change 2012."
Being a public figure, Halperin has had a number of attacks against him including five women who came forward to accuse Halperin of sexual harassment. One woman said Halperin grabbed her private areas out of the blue and kissed her. The heat would lead Halperin to issue an apology for pursuing "relationships with women that I worked with, including some junior to me" but denied any allegations of wrongdoing. Halperin currently resides with his girlfriend Karen Avrich in New York City.
