Marsh made his domestic debut in the 2009 Ford Ranger Cup, and in the same year, he represented Australia in the Under-19 squad. He was appointed captain of the Australian Under-19 team in 2010 and led them to victory in the ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup. Later that year, he joined the Deccan Chargers in the IPL. In 2011, he was signed by the Sahara Pune Warriors, a team coached by his father Geoff Marsh.
A right-handed batting all-rounder and medium-fast bowler, Marsh has represented Australia in all major cricket formats. He made his T20 International debut in 2011 and joined the One Day International (ODI) squad the same year, stepping in following Brett Lee’s injury. His international Test debut came in 2014 against Pakistan. That year, he also played for Australia A and recorded the second-highest seventh-wicket partnership in Australian Test history.
Marsh has played 19 Test matches, scoring runs at an average of 23.18 and taking 29 wickets. In ODIs, he has appeared in 48 matches, capturing 41 wickets and maintaining a batting average of 35.48. His First-Class (FC) record includes 67 matches with 113 wickets, while his List A (LA) stats consist of 90 matches and 81 wickets. His first century in ODIs was against India in 2016, marking a milestone in his white-ball career. Despite being dropped from the Test squad later that year, reasons for the exclusion were not officially disclosed.
Before focusing exclusively on cricket, Marsh also showcased notable talent in Australian Rules Football. He participated in the 2008 AFL Under-18 Championships, reflecting his diverse athletic ability. However, he eventually chose cricket as his main professional path, though the reasons behind this decision have not been publicly discussed.
