Nicholas Edward Foles, commonly known as Nick Foles, was born and raised in Austin, Texas. He is the son of Melissa and Larry Foles, both of whom are restaurateurs. Foles graduated in 2007 from Westlake High School, the same school attended by fellow NFL quarterback Drew Brees. As a two-year starter for the school's football team, Foles threw for 5,658 yards and 56 touchdowns, surpassing several school records previously held by Brees.
In addition to football, Foles excelled in basketball and was named team MVP. He was recruited for basketball by schools such as Texas, Baylor, and Georgetown. During high school, he also played football with notable future NFL players Justin Tucker, now a kicker for the Baltimore Ravens, and Kyle Adams, formerly of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Foles initially committed to Arizona State but later enrolled at Michigan State University. After one season, he transferred to the University of Arizona, where he redshirted during the 2008 season. At Arizona, Foles became the starting quarterback and developed into a standout player, setting the stage for his future in the NFL.
Nick Foles was selected by the Philadelphia Eagles in the third round of the 2012 NFL Draft. He made his NFL debut in Week 10 of the 2012 season after starting quarterback Michael Vick suffered an injury. Foles earned his first start the following week.
During the 2013 season, Foles recorded a historic performance by becoming the first NFL quarterback to post a perfect passer rating (158.3) while throwing for over 400 yards and tossing seven touchdown passes in a single game. This made him only the second quarterback in NFL history to achieve such a combination in one game. He also set an NFL record that season for the best touchdown-to-interception ratio in a single season, throwing 27 touchdown passes and only 2 interceptions.
