Noel Mazzone is an American football coach and former player, currently recognized for his extensive career as an offensive coordinator at both the collegiate and professional levels. He was born on March 21, 1957, and raised in Raton, New Mexico. Mazzone attended the University of New Mexico, where he played as the starting quarterback for four years.
After graduating, Mazzone began his coaching journey as a graduate assistant at his alma mater under head coach Joe Morrison. His first full-time coaching role came at Colorado State University, where he served as the quarterbacks and wide receivers coach for five years. He was later hired by Jim Wacker as the quarterbacks coach at Texas Christian University (TCU). When Wacker accepted a head coaching position at the University of Minnesota, Mazzone followed and continued serving in the same role for the Golden Gophers.
Mazzone's coaching résumé grew through a series of roles at prominent college football programs. He coached at Ole Miss from 1995 to 1998 before moving to Auburn University, where he worked from 1999 to 2001. In 2002, he served as the offensive coordinator at Oregon State University, followed by a tenure at North Carolina State University from 2003 to 2004 in the same capacity.
In 2006, Mazzone transitioned to the National Football League as the wide receivers coach for the New York Jets. His time with the Jets lasted through the 2008 season. After his NFL stint, Mazzone briefly took a coaching position at Panther Creek High School in Cary, North Carolina, where he served as the offensive coordinator in 2009.
