Paul Adelstein

Paul Adelstein was born on April 29, 1969 in Chicago, Illinois. His family is reformed Jewish. Because of that, he went to the progressive Francis W. Parker School. Afterward he attended Bowdoin College, where he was part of the Phi Beta Kappa. He graduated summa cum laude with a major in English and a minor in music. His acting career started at John Cusack’s production company, New Crime Productions. After this experience he was a part of the Steppenwolf Theatre Company.

Paul is mostly known for role as Agent Paul Kellerman (one of his most visualized picture from Flickr depicts him in that role). This was his character in the TV series Prison Break. He is also known for his role as pediatrician from Grey’s Anatomy spin off Private Practice. This is also a medical drama. Other roles that made him famous are the ones he did in movies like Intolerable Cruelty and Memoirs of a Geisha. Currently he plays Leo Bergen in Scandal and Jake Novak in Girlfriend’s Guide to Divorce.

Acting Career

His debut was in 1990, with the movie The Grifters. Because of his talent he was after called as part of the cast for several TV series such as Cupid, ER, Without a Trace and Scrubs. He had also a supporting role in movies like Bedazzled (2000), Intolerable Cruelty (2003), Memoirs of a Geisha (2005) and Be Cool (2005).

2005 was a busy year for Paul Adelstein, because he was made part of Prison Breaks’ cast members. Initially, when he auditioned, the part he was looking for was the lead role, Lincoln Burrows. However, he played the government operative Paul Kellerman. In 2007 he joined Private Practice where he stayed until the series ended in 2013, after six seasons. In 2014 he became part of Scandal another Shonda Rhimes TV production.

Currently he is playing Jake Novak, Abby McCarthy’s husband in Girlfriend’s Guide to Divorce. In April 2016 he starred as Raymond Blackstone together with Hugh Lurie in Chance.

Personal life

In 2003, Paul Moved to Los Angeles when he was 34 years. In November 2006, Liza Weil became his wife. Together they had a child in April 2010. Liza Weil is known for her roles in Gilmore Girls (Paris Geller) and How To Get Away With Murder (Bonnie Winterbottom). However, the two of them divorced in March 2016, due to irreconcilable differences. They decided for joint custody for their daughter. None of them pays spousal support.

Singing Career

As a hobby he likes singing. Adelstein has a band called Doris. He is the lead vocalist, pianist and guitarist. The band formed in the late 1990’s but they managed to record several albums. The band’s name came from Adelstein’s mother, who is named Doris. He admits that even though he was not so good at music, he still took piano lessons by the age of 10. He said that he could not read the music, although he was good at playing it. He said that the music he makes is not based on notes and other technical music stuff, but mostly on the sounds the instrument makes. He says that most of the music he makes is for relaxation. It is known that from his acting career he built a net worth of $2 million.
