Early Life and Background

Shari Headley was born on July 15, 1964, in Queens, New York, United States. She was raised in a middle-class household as the youngest of four children. From a young age, Headley aspired to become a performer and frequently participated in school productions and local shows during her high school years.

Acting Career Beginnings

Headley began her professional acting career in 1985 with a guest appearance on the NBC sitcom The Cosby Show. Her breakthrough role came in 1988 when she portrayed Lisa McDowell in the critically acclaimed and commercially successful romantic comedy Coming to America, starring Eddie Murphy. The film was a box office hit, grossing over $288 million worldwide.

Television Success and Soap Operas

In 1991, Headley joined the cast of the ABC daytime soap opera All My Children, where she played Detective Mimi Reed. Her performance on the show spanned intermittently until 1994 and later appeared again through 2005. She also had notable guest-starring roles in series such as New York Undercover, Walker, Texas Ranger, and Cosby.

From 1997 to 1998, Headley starred in the short-lived Fox drama 413 Hope St., earning a NAACP Image Award nomination for Outstanding Actress in a Drama Series. She returned to television in 2014 with a recurring role as Jennifer Sallison on the OWN (Oprah Winfrey Network) soap opera The Haves and the Have Nots, produced by Tyler Perry.
