Shelby Miller

Shelby Miller was born on 10th October, 1990. His birth place is Houston, Texas, in the United States of America. His birth name was Shelby Charles Miller. Playing history

In 2009, Miller was selected by the St. Louis Cardinals for the 1st round of ML baseball draft and received $2.87Million dollar as signing bonus. Pretty high for a rookie.

His professional debut was with the Quad Cities River Bandits and in 2010 season he set a 7-5 win-loss record. The record had 3.62 earned run average (ERA) and strikeout of 140. With this performance he was named in the All-Star Futures Game and went on to become the pitcher of the year for the Cardinal’s minor league. In 2011, he was named Cardinal Nations’ pitcher of the year and was commended highly by ESPN.com.

His ML debut was in 2012 against the New York Mets, but recorded his first ML win against Los Angeles Dodgers. In the 2013, regular season Miller pitched an almost “perfect game” against Colorado Rockers, retiring 27 batters in a row. He was particularly brilliant against the Milwaukee Brewers, and has a 1.03 ERA and had picked up 13th win of the season.

Performance dip

Post the 2013 season, Miller wasn’t played in the starting rotation, despite being in the roster for all three series for Cardinals. Things went from bad to worse as he struggles with his form in the first two months of the 2014 season. However, he did make a comeback with a 5-0 win against Toronto Blue Jays, second time in his career.

The Cardinals, in 2015, traded him to Atlanta Braves and Miller signed a 1 year / $4,350,000 contract with the Atlanta Braves. In the game against Miami Marlins, Miller improved to 5-1 win with an ERA of 1.33. With this performance he was voted to the All-Star game, until which time his ERA was 2.07, the 3rd lowest in all of baseball. His performance significantly dipped in September 2015, when his ERA touched 7.11 and 2.3 runs in nine innings, the third worst run compiled since 1975.

He now plays for Arizona Diaomondback after being traded to by Atlanta Braves in December 2015.

Personal life

Shelby Miller married Amy Peters in 2013 after a two year courtship. Their wedding was a high profile affair with a lot of media limelight. Amy was a cheerleader and worked at a salon before becoming Miller’s wife. Amy gave a detailed interview to the New York Times, spelling out when they met, initial years and how the relationship developed. Miller’s dad works at the Brownwood Fire Department. Miller also has three sisters.

Miller is a fantastic pitcher with his unique style of pitching. He throws fastball and curveball 98% of the time, and 94 miles per hour is his average fastball speed. With an annual salary of $535,000 his net worth is estimated at $1.2Million dollars. He is quite active on Twitter posting interesting tweets and pictures for his fans and friends.
