Steven Culp is an American television and film actor, born on December 3, 1955, in La Jolla, California. Raised in a middle-class family, Culp has built a successful career in entertainment, becoming particularly well-known for his role as Rex Van De Kamp on the ABC series Desperate Housewives. He also earned recognition for playing Speaker of the House Jeff Haffley on The West Wing and recurring roles such as Clayton Webb on JAG. Education and Academic Background

Although Culp’s father and stepfather were both naval officers, he chose a different path, driven by his passion for the literary arts and music. He attended First Colonial High School in Virginia Beach, Virginia, where he was recognized as one of the most talented students. In 1978, he graduated from the College of William & Mary with a degree in English Literature. He then studied at the University of Exeter in the United Kingdom and later earned an M.F.A. from Brandeis University in 1981.

Television and Film Career

Steven Culp began his film career with a role in the 1993 horror film Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday, portraying journalist Robert Campbell. He voiced James's father in the animated film James and the Giant Peach and has taken on recurring roles in various popular shows, including Clayton Webb in JAG and Major Hayes in Star Trek: Enterprise—notably, both characters met untimely ends within their respective storylines.

Culp gained further recognition with a guest appearance on Celebrity Poker Showdown, where he played in the seventh-season championship game. He also portrayed Special Agent Fred Chambers in Traveler and Navy Commander William Skinner in NCIS. In the film The Chicago 8, he portrayed federal prosecutor Thomas Foran. Other notable roles include Dr. Parker in Grey’s Anatomy, a part in Body of Proof, and a recurring appearance in Revolution as Edward Truman, a high commander of the Patriots.
