Tami Roman

Early Life and Background

Tami Roman was born on April 17, 1970, as Tamisha Akbar in New York. She was raised in White Plains, New York, by her mother, who was a single parent for much of Tami’s early life. Her mother worked multiple jobs to support the household, often leaving Tami to spend much of her time alone. Later, her mother married Ali Akbar, who provided much-needed stability and introduced both Tami and her mother to a more structured lifestyle.

Ali played an important role in shaping their lives, but the marriage eventually ended after Tami's mother discovered his infidelity. The separation deeply affected the family. Following the divorce, her mother struggled emotionally and turned to alcohol to cope with the hardship. When she eventually lost her job, the financial strain forced both mother and daughter to live on the streets for approximately six months. This challenging period strengthened their bond and helped shape Tami into a resilient individual determined to succeed despite adversity.

Education

Ali Akbar played a key role in Tami’s early education, providing her with both secular and religious instruction. He introduced her to Islamic teachings, including the concept of marital roles, which became part of her foundational understanding of family life.

Tami graduated from high school but was unable to attend her prom or graduation ceremony due to financial hardship. With Ali no longer in the household and her mother unemployed, covering costs for such events was not feasible at the time.

Tami Roman began her career in the entertainment industry at the age of 22 in 1992. She gained widespread recognition as a television personality and went on to build a diverse career as an actress, model, and host.
