Aasif Mandvi

Aasif Mandvi was born on 5th March 1966, in Mumbai, Maharashtra-India. His birth name was Aasif Hakim Mandviwala. He is an Indian American Comedian and Actor. He belongs to a Dawoodi Muslim Family. When he was only one year old, his family moved to Bradford, England, where his father started working in the textiles research for Bradford University. After which he started working at a corner shop and his mother Fatima use to work as a nurse.

Education

For his education, he went to Woodhouse Grove School. After which he went tothe  University of South Florida to earn a degree in Theatre.

Career Experience

Soon after completing his graduation he started working as a performer at Disney MGM Studios. Then he decided to move to New York City and started working with the Off Broadway Productions.  While working with them, he appeared as Ali Hakim in Oklahoma, in 2002, directed by Trevor Nunn. He also played a role in the play Homebody-Kabul directed by Tony Kushner.

He played Melchior in the play On The Razzle by Tom Stoppard and also seen performing in Guantanamo: Honor Bound to Defend Freedom. He starred in Disgraced at the Clare Tow Theater in 2012 at Lincoln Center. He then got a chance to play a lead role as a Pakistani American lawyer in the drama Ayad Akhtar, who is struggling with his identify and his religion in it.

He started his career by appearing occasionally as a correspondent on The Daily Show in 2006. In March, 2007, he got promoted to a regular correspondent. He played the lead role in the web series Halal In The Family, also helped in producing it and worked as a Cowriter. The series was premiered on Funny or Die in 2015. He also worked as an actor, co-producer and writer for the HBO comedy Series The Brink.

He played minor roles in movies like Die Hard with a Vengeance, The Mystic Masseur and The Siege. He had played a major supporting role in American Chai, an independent movie. He is known for his work in Spiderman 2 and the Dictator.

Personal life

He is a handsome and dashing actor. He has an attractive and athletic body. He doesn't like to reveal much about his personal life to the media. So there is very less detail about his relationship status. Since he is not dating anyone, so there is no question of being married, which means he doesn't have a wife and is still single.

Publications

He won an Obie Award for his one man show Sakina's Restaurant. He won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 2013 for the play Ayad Akhtar. He wrote the book No Land's Man.

He is associated with a disaster relief firm like the Charity Initiative Relief 4 Pakistan, which helps in flood relief in Pakistan. He hosted Stand Up for Religious Freedom in 2010, a comedy event to raise funds for the organization. After the Haiti earthquake in 2010, he performed with others at the Daily Show to avail benefits for earthquake victims.
