Belita Moreno

Aurabella (Belita) Moreno was born in Dallas, Texas on November 1, 1949. She was a firstborn to the Mexican family of Abel and Aurora Moreno, who was a Spanish teacher in the high school. Her sister Elsie was a couple years younger. According to Belita, she got her first taste of stage, when her mother persuaded her to try out for the church play. Since then little girl couldn’t imagine her life without acting.

Young miss Moreno decided to follow her dream and made a great choice – applied to full tuition scholarship at the Theatre Department of the Southern Methodist University, one of the greatest acting schools in the U.S. Apparently, she got this scholarship and enjoyed her studies while working at the Bob Hope Theatre and the Mango Jones Experimental Theatre during her college years. After the graduation she decided to take a special training in Pacific Conservatory of the Performing Arts in Santa Maria, California.

Since the late 1970’s Moreno started to appear in the film episodes, but she became famous owing to the numerous TV shows and sitcoms such as “Valerie”(1988), “Perfect Strangers” (1986 – 1992), “The Golden Girls” (1986), “Full House” (1986), “Roseanne” (1993) and “Melrose Place” (1996).In addition to her astonishing TV career, she had also starred in some films. Some of them are “3 Women” (1977), “Oh, God! You are Devil!”(1984), “Do you remember love?”(1985), “Nobody’s Fool” (1986), “Men Don’t Leave” (1989), and “Grosse Pointe Blank” (1997). Meanwhile, the Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Beth Henley created specific roles in her plays for Moreno: Popeye in “The Miss Firecracker Contest” and Lacey Rollins in “The Lucky Spot”. For sure, she was Beth Henley’s favorite in the 1980s, because she appeared in Henley’s Broadway premiere of “The Wake of Jamey Foster” (1982) and at “The South Coast Repertory” (1989). In 2002 Belita came back to the TV screen as Benny Lopez on George Lopez TV show. In 2004 she was awarded Imagen Foundation Reward in nomination “Best Supporting Actress in a Television Comedy”. Later on, she was nominated twice for Alma Awards in 2006 and 2007 as an “Outstanding Actress in a Television Series” for the same role.

Since 1990s TV proposals became more rear and an aging actress (she was over 40 at that time) decided to dedicate herself to the acting coaching. She has served as a coach and advisor for many films such as “Jerry Maguire”, “Rush Hour 2”, “Almost Famous”, “The Family Man”, “Crossroads” and “17 Again”. Belita Moreno was a personal acting coach for Lindsay Lohan during the “Parents Trap”.

Even though Belita Moreno is a public person, there is not much known about her personal life. It’s known that she’s married to Joel Rudnick, a talent agent, who actually was playing in the “Fiddler on the Roof” (1972) and in the “Two Idiots in Hollywood” (1988). In this marriage they got two children – a daughter and a son (unfortunately, their names and age are unknown).A 66 year-old actress lives with her husband and her favorite Golden Lab.
