Ejogo's television career began in 1990 as a presenter on the children's program Saturday Disney in the United Kingdom. She transitioned to acting with a role as Blinda in the 1996 British miniseries Cold Lazarus. Her early television work also includes appearances in Catherine Cookson’s Colour Blind (1998) as Rose Angela, Tube Tales (1998), Sally Hemings: An American Scandal (2000) as Sally Hemings, and the civil rights-era drama Boycott (2001), where she first portrayed Coretta Scott King.
