Christiane Amanpour

Amanpour’s journalist career spans over nearly three decades. She got started with her profession in the year 1983 when she joined the CNN network as entry level assistant. Most journalists have to fight to get a spot in their local news station when they are first starting out in the industry. Amanpour secured a spot on a national news giant to begin her path in journalism. Beginning in such a high profile spot as a rookie might intimidate a lot of people. That did not happen to Amanpour though as she empowered herself and used the fortunate position to develop a well decorated career. It took her only seven years to be earn a promotion to the position of international correspondent in the year 1990. She has reported major news from all around the world including Iraq, Afghanistan, Iran, Sudan, Pakistan, Israel, Libya, Egypt, Europe, and the United States. She has had the privilege of interviewing many top leaders of the world including the Presidents of Iran (Mohammad Khatami and Mahmoud Ahmadinejad), Afghanistan, Palestinian Authority and Sudan, and the Prime Ministers of Israel. One of her biggest marks in her career was being the first reporter to interview British Prime Minister Tony Blair and the Presidents of France, Afghanistan, and Pakistan following the September 11 tragedy.

Amanpour is the recipient of many major journalism awards in Television. She has won nine News and Documentary Emmy Awards, two George Polk Awards, 4 George Foster Peabody Awards, 3 duPont-Columbia Awards, and the Giants of Broadcasting honor awarded by the Library of American Broadcasting. It turns out that she didn’t need extra help, she was capable of reaching the top of the mountain herself.

Even Queen Elizabeth II recognized Amanpour’s contribution to journalism by bestowing upon her the title of Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire. Amanpour is also a board member in the Committee to Protect Journalists and holds prestigious position in the International Women’s Media Foundation and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. She is also the Honorary Citizen of the City of Sarajevo in appreciation of her journalistic efforts. Even though Amanpour ‘s record when it comes to controversy has been mostly clean, she did have an issue with Israel. Takvim filed a complaint against her which was followed up by CNN. Unfortunately for Amanpour, CNN decided to charge her with instigating public strife and agitation by reporting fake news.
