Health Challenges and Return to Acting
In June 2009, Dean Winters suffered a serious bacterial infection and collapsed at a doctor's office. During ambulance transport to a medical facility in central Manhattan, he went into cardiac arrest and was clinically dead for over two minutes before being revived. He spent over three weeks in the intensive care unit. In the following year, he developed gangrene and had two toes and half of a thumb amputated. A subsequent reconstructive surgery involved a skin graft.
