Jamia Simone Nash was born on August 21, 1996, in Virginia Beach, Virginia, to James and Charlene Nash. Her father became her manager when she began singing professionally. She has a younger sister named Olivia. Currently, Jamia resides with her parents in Los Angeles, California.
Jamia started singing at the age of four. Her first televised appearance was on the syndicated music program Showtime at the Apollo in 2002, where she performed Alicia Keys' song "Fallin'." In 2003, she sang Michael Jackson's "Who's Lovin' You" at the Essence Awards in honor of Mary J. Blige. The following year, she and her sister Olivia contributed vocals to the song "Black Girl Pain" on Talib Kweli’s album The Beautiful Struggle.
Throughout her early career, Jamia shared the stage with industry greats such as Stevie Wonder, Celine Dion, Alicia Keys, Josh Groban, and John Mayer. Before major mainstream success, she appeared on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Good Morning America, and The CBS Early Show. Among her high-profile audiences were Aretha Franklin, John Travolta, Oprah Winfrey, the King of Jordan, and the President of the United States—who referred to her as “the definition of the future.” In 2003, she performed the national anthem as part of the NBA All-Star Game festivities.
In addition to her music career, Jamia has taken on roles in various television and film projects. She has appeared in shows such as My Wife and Kids, Romeo, and lent her vocal talents to The Backyardigans, a popular children's program.
