Breakthrough in Film: 'August Rush' and Award Recognition

In 2006, Jamia portrayed a young Fantasia Barrino in the Lifetime original movie Life Is Not a Fairytale: The Fantasia Barrino Story, a biopic about the 2004 American Idol winner. The following year, she played the role of Hope, a friend of the protagonist Evan, in the critically acclaimed musical drama August Rush. She also served as lead vocalist on the track "Raise It Up," which was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Original Song. Her performance of the song at the 2008 Academy Awards made her the youngest singer in history to perform on the Oscar telecast.

In 2008, Jamia joined the cast of the CBS daytime soap opera The Young and the Restless, playing the character Ana Hamilton.
