Minchin has been a frequent anchor on BBC One's Breakfast since 2006, co-hosting the show three days a week with Dan Walker. Minchin announced live on air on June 8, 2021, that she would be quitting BBC Breakfast "after the summer," following 20 years as host. On September 15, 2021, she made her final appearance on the show.

Louise Mary Minchin was born on September 8, 1968, in Hong Kong. Her father was a major in the Irish guards of the British army. Louise was educated at St Mary's School in Ascot. As an amateur, she is a triathlete who qualified for the 2015 Great Britain Age-Group Triathlon Team (45–49 age group). On September 19, 2015, she competed in the World Triathlon Championships in Chicago in the standard distance race (1500 m swim, 40 km cycle ride, and 10 km run). On June 15, 2015, she qualified for the team at the Dambuster Triathlon at Rutland Water. At the ITU World Triathlon Championships, she finished 71st out of 78 competitors.

Minchin discussed menopause on the BBC Breakfast program in 2019, citing her experience with hot flushes that caused them to reduce the thermostat.

Minchin supports SOS Children's Villages, an international orphan charity providing homes and mothers for orphaned and abandoned children. Minchin helped fund the National Deaf, Blind, and Rubella association when she interviewed celebrity photographer Dave for Deaf and Blind awareness week in 2009.
