Luke Kuechly was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, and grew up in the nearby suburb of Evendale. He attended St. Xavier High School in Cincinnati’s Finneytown area, where he played both linebacker and safety for the football team. As a junior in 2007, Kuechly recorded 147 tackles, six sacks, two forced fumbles, two interceptions, and three fumble recoveries. He was a two-time All-Greater Catholic League selection and earned first-team honors for his performance on the field.
Considered a three-star recruit, Kuechly was ranked No. 44 among linebacker prospects in the Class of 2009, a group led by Jelani Jenkins and Nico Johnson. After visiting Boston College, Stanford, and Duke, he committed to Boston College in January 2009. While attending Boston College, he played as a linebacker and earned All-American honors twice.
