Marc Lamont Hill was born on December 17, 1978, and spent the better part of his growing years in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He graduated from Temple University in 2000 where he was awarded his B.S. in education and Spanish. Further, he holds a Ph. D. from the University of Pennsylvania.He worked as a professor at Temple University from 2005 to 2009 where he taught urban education and American studies. He later joined Teachers College, Columbia University but left it in 2014 and joined Morehouse College.
Before shooting to fame he co-founded a non-profit organization, My5th, working for education of youth and helping them know their legal rights. Marc is an active member of ACLU Drug Reform Project and the Philadelphia Student Union. He has also contributed largely to the campaigns focusing on revoking capital punishment.To promote school engagement and reading skills among high school students he also started a literacy project which employs hip-hop culture. He is also known to teach adult literacy courses to high school dropouts.
His works were appreciated when he was named one of the America’s top 30 black leaders by Ebony magazine. He is a celebrated journalist and won the GLAAD Media Award for ‘Outstanding Digital Journalism Article’ for his work in Ebony.com titled ‘Why Aren’t We Fighting for CeCe McDonald?’Marc has also received many prestigious awards; these include recognition from the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences.
Currently, he is a host of BET news and also a political contributor for CNN. Initially, he also worked as a political contributor for the FOX NEWS Channel before getting fired in 2009. He also appeared on The O’Reilly Factor, Huckabee, and Hannity during 2007 to 2009.He was also a contributor to the Star Jones show aired on Court TV. In 2010, he became the host of Our World with Black Enterprises replacing ED Gordon. In May 2012, he started hosting the internet-based HuffPost Live of Huffington Post.
Once on the O’Reilly Factor show, O’Reilly joked about his looks, height and hair by comparing it with a cocaine dealer. Though Hill brushed it off as a joke, O’Reilly faced a lot of criticism for it.Marc Lamont’s latest work include Nobody: America’s War on Its Vulnerable from Ferguson to Baltimore and Beyond (July 2016); and Gentrifier (June 2016). He is also working to complete the manuscript 10 Right Wing Myths about Education.
