Michael Owen Rosenbaum is an American actor, comedian, writer, producer, and director. He was born on July 11, 1972, in Oceanside, New York, and raised in Newburgh, Indiana. His parents are Julie, a published author and former actress known for her book Journey of a Lifetime, and Mark Rosenbaum, who worked in the pharmaceutical industry. Michael has five siblings: two brothers, Eric and Adam, and three sisters, including Laurie. He also has two stepsisters, Ava and Lia, from his father’s second marriage.
Following his parents’ divorce, Julie remarried Gordon Engelhardt, a reporter, and Mark later married Alexis Peregrino, a performer, with whom he had two daughters. Despite the changes in his family dynamic, Rosenbaum maintained close relationships with his siblings and stepfamily members.
Michael Rosenbaum attended Castle High School in Indiana before enrolling at Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green, Kentucky. There, he earned a degree in theatre arts and became a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. Rosenbaum gained early recognition for his performance in the comedy film Sorority Boys, but his most iconic role came as Lex Luthor in the television series Smallville. His portrayal of the complex villain earned him a Saturn Award and a place in TV Guide’s "60 Nastiest Villains of All Time." He originally left the series in 2008 but returned in the final season in 2011 to give closure to his character's arc.
In addition to live-action roles, Rosenbaum became a prominent voice actor, known especially for voicing the Flash (Wally West) in the DC Animated Universe, including Justice League and Justice League Unlimited. He also provided voices for other characters such as Ghoul in Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker and Deadshot, appropriately using vocal impersonations, including that of Kevin Spacey, when requested.
