An Australian actress Miranda Otto was born on December 16th of 1967 in Brisbane, Australia. To be an actress was in her fate, because all her family was involved in a film industry. Her mother Lindsay Otto was an actress, her father Barry Otto was an actor and her sister Gracie Otto also has become an actress. So, obviously, Miranda decided not to break the dynasty and follow the parent’s path. Being a child, she played in Nimrod Theatre and wrote scripts. This not just helped her to get some experience, but also she was noticed by Faith Martin, who subsequently offered her the role in the drama film Emma's War.
The Emma's War was the first Miranda’s serious role, and she played it when she was just 19 years old and being the student of National Institute of Dramatic Art. The plot described a teenager Emma Grange, who moves to Australia during World War II.
After graduation from National Institute of Dramatic Art in 1990, she immediately received the role in The Girl Who Came Late. This film opened the door of the opportunities to her because of her excellent playing the women Nell Tiscowitz who could speak with horses. This brilliant role got her first nomination for Best Actress by Australian Film Institute.
Then Miranda Otto began to receive roles one after another in a various movies and TV shows: The Last Days of Chez Nous, The Nostradamus Kid, Sex Is a Four Letter Word, The Well, Doing Time for Patsy Cline, Dead Letter Office and other. During that time, she was nominated on different awards for six times, basically, as the Best Actor.
After all these films, Miranda attracted attention of Hollywood, so she without any doubts moved to USA where in 2000 received a role of Mary Feur in What Lies Beneath. The film was very successful at the box office (gained 291 million dollars all around the world), and served as a startup for Otto’s future career in Hollywood. Then followed her roles in the comedy Human Nature, film Being John Malkovich and The Way We Live Now.
In 1999, Peter Jackson, after careful review of the films where participated Miranda, invited her on the casting for the role of Éowyn in The Lord of the Rings trilogy. She passed the casting and this role came up with a huge fame to her. The trilogy won enormous amount of awards, gathering almost 3 billion dollars of box office.
