Morena Baccarin is a Brazilian born actress best known for portraying Inara Serra in the short-lived cult sci-fi show Firefly and Jessica Brody in the Showtime series Homeland. Morena, which means brunette in Portuguese, was born June 2, 1979, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Morena has both Italian and Brazilian ancestry. Morena attended PS 41 and the New York City Lab School for Collaborative Studies where she was classmates with future Homeland co-star Claire Danes.

She graduated from the Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music and Art and Performing Arts and then entered the theater program at Julliard School for the Performing Arts. Morena has two children, a son, Julius Chick, by her first husband, from whom she was divorced in 2013; and a daughter, Frances Laiz Setta Schenkkan, with her now husband, Ben McKenzie. In 2015, Baccarin starred in the Fox television series Gotham, where she met her future husband, Ben Mckenzie; the couple was married in Brooklyn, New York, in June of 2017.

Baccarin was nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series at the 2013 Primetime Emmy awards for her performance in Homeland.
