Paz Vega, born María Paz Campos Trigo in 1976, is a Spanish actress originally from Seville, Spain. Her mother was a homemaker, and her father, who is now retired, worked as a matador. She has a younger sister who is a professional flamenco dancer. Vega describes her family as traditional and Catholic in upbringing.
She adopted the stage name "Paz Vega" in honor of her grandmother. Her passion for acting began after attending a performance of Federico García Lorca's play La Casa de Bernarda Alba. After completing her compulsory education at the age of 16, she was accepted into the prestigious Centro Andaluz de Teatro, a performing arts school in Seville. Following two years of study and a brief interest in journalism, she moved to Madrid to pursue her acting career.
Paz Vega began her acting career on Spanish television with a role in the TV series Menudo es mi Padre, which also featured Spanish rumba singer El Fary. In 1997, she appeared in two additional television series: Más que Amigos and the teen drama Compañeros. These roles helped establish her presence in the Spanish entertainment industry.
Vega made her film debut in 1999 with the movie Zapping. That same year, she had a supporting role in I Will Survive, directed by David Menkes, appearing alongside Juan Diego Botto and Emma Suárez, with a cameo by Boy George.
Her breakthrough came with the television sitcom 7 Vidas in 1999, which was dubbed the "Spanish Friends" for its comedic style and ensemble cast. Vega played the character Laura, a vibrant Andalusian who enters the life of a man recovering from a coma. The series aired on Telecinco and became one of Spain’s most beloved sitcoms, running until 2006, although Vega left before the series concluded.
