Pete Carroll

Advancement in the NFL and USC Trojans

Carroll continued his NFL coaching career as defensive coordinator for the New York Jets under head coach Bruce Coslet. In 1992, Carroll sought the head coaching role at the Minnesota Vikings, but once again, Dennis Green was selected over him. He eventually earned a head coaching position with the New York Jets in 1994, followed by a stint as head coach of the New England Patriots from 1997 to 1999.

Carroll returned to college football in 2001 as head coach of the University of Southern California (USC) Trojans. Under his leadership, USC achieved national prominence, winning two national championships (2003, 2004*) and producing numerous NFL players. (*Note: The 2004 championship was later vacated by the NCAA.)

In 2010, Carroll was hired as head coach and executive vice president of the Seattle Seahawks. Under his leadership, the team achieved its first Super Bowl victory, defeating the Denver Broncos 43–8 in Super Bowl XLVIII on February 2, 2014. Carroll remains in this role, one of only a few people to win both a Super Bowl and a college football national championship.

Family and Personal Life

Pete Carroll is married to Glena Carroll, and together they have three children: Brennan, Jaime, and Nathan. Their eldest son, Brennan Carroll, followed in his father's footsteps, playing college football initially at the University of Delaware before transferring to the University of Pittsburgh, where he played tight end. Brennan later served as a graduate assistant on his father’s coaching staff.

Their daughter, Jaime Carroll, attended USC beginning in 2000 and played for the university’s Women of Troy volleyball team. Their youngest child, Nathan Carroll, also attended USC and later joined Pete Carroll's staff as an assistant.

Civic Involvement and Hobbies

Carroll is deeply committed to community service. In response to the rise in gang violence in Los Angeles, he founded "A Better LA," a non-profit aimed at reducing crime and improving community engagement in high-risk areas.

Outside of football, Carroll is a dedicated fan of water sports and enjoys paddleboarding and surfing. He currently resides in Hunts Point, Washington, where notable neighbors include Steve Ballmer, former Microsoft CEO and Los Angeles Clippers owner, and Jim Sinegal, co-founder of Costco.

Legacy and Recognition

Pete Carroll's legacy in football is marked by his unique dual success at the collegiate and NFL levels. He is one of only three coaches to win both a Super Bowl and a college football national championship.
