Selma Blair was born on June 23, 1972, in Southfield, Michigan. She is an American actress known for her work across television, film, and theatre. Her parents are Molly Ann Beitner and Elliot I. Beitner. Selma is the youngest of four siblings. Her parents divorced when she was 23, and following the divorce, she changed her surname to Blair. Her father passed away at the age of 82.

Education and Academic Background

Blair attended Hillel Day School and later Cranbrook Kingswood, both in Michigan. She began her college education at Kalamazoo College, where she studied photography. At age 20, she moved to New York City, enrolling at New York University (NYU). Eventually, she transferred to the University of Michigan, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a double major in Fine Arts and English.

Selma Blair has shared that she lost a significant love interest in 1990; he was 18 years old at the time of his passing, an event she says had a profound impact on her outlook on life. In 2004, she divorced her husband Ahmet Zappa, a writer and producer, citing irreconcilable differences. From 2008 to 2010, she dated comedian Mikey Day. In 2010, she entered a relationship with fashion designer Jason Bleick. They welcomed a son, Arthur Saint Bleick, on July 25, 2011. The couple separated the following year.
