She attended Cranbrook Kingswood, Hillel Day School. She had her first year of her university days in Kalamazoo college, she studied photography there, later on when she was 20 years of age she moved to New York, while she was in New York, she attended New York University.

She later then transferred to University of Michigan, she graduated with a double major in Fine Arts and English, and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology.

Personal Life

According to her she lost her love interest in 1990, he was just 18 years of age when he died, she stated he made her realize how to live. She married her ex husband Ahmet Zappa, a producer and a writer, but she later filed for divorce in 2004 saying they had differences which could not be irreconcilable. She also dated Mikey day from a period of 2008 to 2010, but later called it off.

In 2010 she began dating Jason Bleick, she had a baby boy for him while they were together, he was born July 25th and was named Arthur Saint Bleick, after which they broke up after a year together.

Career

She started her career in 1990 when she was involved in the production of Murder in the Cathedral, she stated she didn't do to well with her work in this production. She went on to train as an actor in New York. She went on several auditions and finally got the chance to feature in an episode of the sitcom The Adventures of Pete and Pete.

She has her first lead role in the film Strong Island Boys.

She also went on a co starred with Karl Urban in the fantasy film Amazon High where she played the role as an Orphaned high school student. She also played the role of Joey Potter in Dawson's creek but later on she got replaced by Katie Holmes, after this she auditioned for the series film Buffy the Vampire Slayer but she never got the role. She went on several auditions and played on several film roles but got her breakthrough in 1999 when she cast in the film Cruel Intentions, the film was based on the novel Les Liaisons Dangerousness. The film was a commercial success, making Selma a breakthrough star. She was nominated in the MTV movie awards for her role in the film.

After this she played the role of Zoe Bean in the film Zoe, Duncan, Jack and Jane with co-stars Michael Rosenbaum and Azura Skye.& She went on and featured in films like Down on You, Kill Me Later and Suicidal. She had international success when she played part in the comedy Legally Blonde, she movie topped the US box office. All through her career she has featured in numerous blockbuster movies. Apart from being an actress she has played part in fashion and politics.
