Early Life and Amateur Football Career

Shaun Christopher Suisham was born on December 29, 1981, in Wallaceburg, Ontario, Canada. He attended Holy Family Catholic School during his early education before going on to Wallaceburg District Secondary School. There, he showcased his athletic abilities and was named the football team's Offensive Most Valuable Player (MVP) in 1999. One year earlier, in 1998, he contributed significantly to his team's championship victory by kicking two key field goals—an accomplishment that marked the school's first league title since 1968.

Suisham continued his football journey at Bowling Green State University, where he redshirted his freshman year due to a spring practice injury and eligibility considerations. From 2001 to 2004, he played for the Falcons and made a lasting impact. He left the program as its all-time leading scorer with 361 points, recording 45 field goals and 31 touchbacks. His consistent performance set multiple program records and earned him recognition in collegiate football circles.

Professional Career and NFL Journey

Shaun Suisham began his professional football career in 2005 when he signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers as an undrafted free agent. He was waived by the team on August 28 of that year and later signed with the Dallas Cowboys on October 24, 2005. His first stint with the Cowboys lasted until October 12, 2006, when he was released.

Shortly thereafter, on November 22, 2006, Suisham signed with the Washington Redskins. Over the next few seasons, he built a solid reputation as a reliable placekicker. In December 2009, he briefly rejoined the Cowboys; however, in 2010, he returned to the Pittsburgh Steelers, where he would find a more permanent role. Suisham became a key part of the Steelers' special teams unit.

Over the course of his NFL career, Suisham achieved considerable success. He made 211 field goals out of 251 attempts, achieving a field goal percentage of approximately 84.1%. His performance included 53 successful field goals from 50 yards or more and 139 career touchbacks. These accomplishments helped establish him as one of the more consistent kickers of his era.

Impact on Fantasy Football

Suisham's accuracy and scoring ability made him a popular selection in fantasy football leagues during his peak years. Fantasy owners valued his consistency, especially during seasons when the Pittsburgh Steelers relied frequently on his kicking precision for points.
