Early Education and Academic Background
She attended Forest Hill Community High School, where she was active in extracurricular activities, including serving as a cheerleader. Following high school, she enrolled at the University of Florida in Gainesville. Her passion for meteorology began early in life, sparked by a fascination with science and natural phenomena.
At the University of Florida, Stephanie earned a Bachelor of Science degree in geography with a minor in mathematics, graduating with honors. During her time at the university, she was also an active member of the Delta Phi Epsilon sorority and served as the chapter president. She later pursued a second degree in meteorology at Florida State University in Tallahassee, from which she graduated cum laude.
During her studies at Florida State University, Abrams gained practical experience by delivering on-air forecasts for FSU Live, a student-run news and weather program broadcast on a local cable channel. She also served as a teaching assistant, helping instruct a course in meteorology.
Career Beginnings in Meteorology
Stephanie Abrams began her professional career at WTXL-TV, the ABC affiliate in Tallahassee, Florida. It was her first job in television, where she co-hosted the program Weekend View. Her work there paved the way for her future in broadcast meteorology.
In July 2003, Abrams joined The Weather Channel. Initially, she contributed as a reporter and a fill-in presenter. By 2005, she became the co-host of Weekend View, marking her first regular on-air position with the network.
Rise at The Weather Channel
In 2006, Abrams was promoted to on-camera meteorologist and co-hosted the show Abrams & Bettes. In 2009, she began co-hosting Wake Up With Al alongside NBC’s Al Roker. The morning show aired on weekdays from 5 a.m. to 7 a.m. ET and continued until the end of 2015.
During the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, Abrams reported live for both Wake Up With Al and America’s Morning Headquarters (AMHQ). She also co-hosted On The Radar from 2012 to 2013 and Morning Rush from 2009 to 2014. In 2012, she briefly filled in as the interim weather anchor on Weekend Today until Dylan Dreyer joined the program.
