She attended Forest Hill community High School and during her time in school, she was a cheerleader. After completing her high school education she joined University of Florida in Gainesville. Her interest in meteorology arose from a very small age, she was very interested about scientific phenomena and natural calamities. Stephanie was a very bright student during her studying in college. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science in geography, and mathematics, from the University of Florida with honors. During the studying at the university, she also was a member of Delta Phi Epsilon sorority, where she was a president. She got second degree in meteorology from Florida State University in Tallahassee, where she graduated cum laude. Stephanie Abrams practiced on-air forecasts on FSU Live, a student-run news and weather production on a Tallahassee cable channel. She worked as a teaching assistant at FSU, teaching a class about meteorology.

Abrams joined WTXL TV, it was her first position on television - an affiliate channel to ABC in Tallahassee, Florida where she co-hosted Weekend View. When she gained experience in the TV channel, she later joined the Weather Channel.

In July 2003, Abrams began on-air work for The Weather Channel. At The Weather Channel, she was a reporter and fill-in during few years from 2003. In 2005, she joined her first show, Weekend View, as a co-host. In 2006, she became an on-camera meteorologist as co-host of Abrams and Bettes (her future husband). In 2009, she began co-hosting Wake Up With Al with NBC news Al Roker on weekday mornings from 5 am to 7 a.m. ET which ended in the end of 2015. During the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, she reported live from Vancouver February 8–28, 2010, with Al Roker for Wake Up With Al and AMHQ. Abrams formerly co-hosted The Weather Channel programs On The Radar from 2012–2013 and Morning Rush on weekdays from 2009–2014. She also was interim weather anchor on Weekend Today in 2012 when Bill Karins and Janice Huff left until Dylan Dreyer arrived. In 2014 Abrams appeared in the movie "Sharknado 2: The Second One" as herself, reporting on The Weather Channel. Abrams takes charge of the show Today when Rocker is on vacation. She is also a correspondent for America’s Morning Headquarters. Stephanie currently co-hosts AMHQ with Jen Carfagno and Jim Cantore from 5AM to 9AM weekdays. She is a member of National Weather Association and has a membership with American Meteorological Society. Abrams has done quite a lot in live reporting especially about hurricanes and the destruction they cause.

Her ex-husband was co-host - Mike Bettes. Stephanie has a handsome salary, about $175,000. She has a net worth of $7 million.
