Early Life and Broadcasting Beginnings

Thomas Bergeron is the son of Catherine and Raymond Bergeron and is of French-Canadian and Irish descent. His career in media began in radio, where he worked as a disc jockey for WHAV, a local station in his hometown of Haverhill, Massachusetts. In the 1980s, he gained regional recognition while working at WHEB in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, becoming a well-known DJ in the Seacoast area.

His transition to television came when he began hosting the local game show Granite State Challenge on New Hampshire Public Television. In 1982, Bergeron moved to Boston to join WBZ-TV, where he became one of the station’s most familiar on-air personalities. During this time, he also contributed to the Evening Magazine for more than five years, marking the beginning of his long-standing presence in television.
