Early Life and Background

Thomas Patrick "Tom" Colicchio was born in 1962 in Elizabeth, New Jersey. He is the son of Beverly and Thomas Colicchio and is of Italian descent on both sides of his family. From an early age, Colicchio developed an interest in cooking, which laid the foundation for his future career as a renowned American chef.

Personal Life

Tom Colicchio has been married to filmmaker Lori Silverbush since 2001. The couple met while working at Gramercy Tavern, where Lori served as a waitress. They have three sons, including Dante, Colicchio’s son from a previous relationship.

Gramercy Tavern and Early Culinary Ventures

In partnership with restaurateur Danny Meyer, Colicchio co-founded Gramercy Tavern in the Gramercy Park neighborhood of Manhattan. The restaurant quickly earned acclaim and was named the most popular restaurant in New York City by the Zagat Survey in 2003 and 2005. Colicchio served as co-owner and executive chef before selling his interest in the restaurant in 2006.

Expansion: Craft and Other Ventures

In 2001, Colicchio launched Craft, located one block south of Gramercy Tavern. The restaurant focused on simple, high-quality ingredients prepared with exceptional technique. In 2002, he opened Craftsteak at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. His sandwich shop, ‘wichcraft, debuted in 2003 and expanded his brand to a more casual dining market. In 2010, he introduced Colicchio & Sons and later opened Riverpark, further establishing his name in the fine dining industry.

Contribution During 9/11

Following the September 11 attacks, Colicchio was among the volunteer chefs who prepared and served meals to first responders and recovery workers at Ground Zero, highlighting his dedication to community and service.
