Tucker Carlson is famous for having a heated argument with one of his guests on Crossfire, the comedian Jon Stewart, the host of the liberal Comedy Central news parody program, The Daily Show. Jon and Tucker had very opposing viewpoints and were unable to find common ground during the argument. At the end of the segment, Jon was very annoyed while Tucker was anticipating his brand growing due to the exposure.
Carlson supported the United States going to war with Iraq in the initial year, but he started criticizing it the following year, describing it as a "total waste" and expressing regret for his earlier support. Carlson went on to support gay relationships and stated that gay marriages are as legitimate as straight marriages, but he was entirely against transgender bathrooms, denying that there could be any transgender students struggling with discrimination in schools. He described a student who was a victim of statutory rape by his teacher as "whiny", and was attacked for his opinion on the despicable remarks of Donald Trump about women, saying that the outrage was exaggerated and "fake news". He also stated in an interview that he thinks there must be an end to all illegal immigration, and once critiqued poor people who have no means of food or shelter, saying they had no dignity for eating out of dumpsters.
When Tucker was asked about Hillary Clinton, he replied by describing her as a "scary" woman. He speculated on why she is always uncomfortable and anxious whenever she appears on television. He said that she must be hiding something if she is always acting so oddly. He accused Obama of being involved with Nazis while talking to Alex Jones, an outspoken conspiracy theorist. He also promoted the idea that Obama wanted to prevent people from possessing firearms and put them in jail if they did not abide by that. He also accused Obama of creating an environment where it became acceptable to attack police. He spoke about the NAACP, a leading organization for civil rights, in an insulting tone. He critiqued the plans of building a Mosque in Manhattan, saying that it was an insult to the victims' families who passed away during the 9/11 events to forget and forgive it all.
In the fall of 2006, Carlson participated in the reality show Dancing with the Stars, which aired on the ABC television network. He admitted that he found it difficult to remember the dance steps, although he took classes every day. He described it as one of the most exciting things he had ever done and was excited about it. He was paired up with Elena Grinenko, a professional dancer. He didn't receive enough votes to remain on the show and was eliminated, making many of his enemies very happy.
Having decided that neither the good nights nor the awful mornings were helping his life, Carlson stopped drinking alcohol in 2002. Years ago, he gave up smoking and switched to nicotine gum, which he buys in bulk from New Zealand and constantly chews. Carlson is dyslexic and left-handed. He is also a Deadhead, having stated in 2005 that he had seen more than fifty of their performances, and noting in 2021 that the same-named Grateful Dead song inspired the title of his book, Ship of Fools. Additionally, he is a lover of the Phish band. Dennis Hof, the owner of a Nevada brothel, was a friend of his, and Carlson attended his burial in 2018. In the same year, members of the Antifa-affiliated "Smash Racism D.C." group staged a protest outside Carlson's Washington, D.C., house, spray-painting an anarchist symbol on his driveway.
Fox News has severed ties with Tucker Carlson, a prominent right-wing extremist and influential figure within the GOP. The network did not provide a reason for his departure. The decision came a week after Fox News settled a $787.5 million defamation lawsuit with Dominion Voting Systems, during which Carlson was exposed for disparaging colleagues. Carlson has been known for promoting conspiracy theories, sowing doubt about the 2020 election, and spreading misinformation about Covid-19 vaccines. The Anti-Defamation League praised the decision, while some Fox News employees expressed relief and hope for a cultural change.
