Career

Chanté was both a beauty pageant contestant and model before being discovered, at the age of twenty-two, by MCA Records executive Louil Silas.

Chanté’s music is heavily influenced by the works of George Duke and Lee Ritenour. Chanté’s debut album ‘Precious’ was released in 1992. ”Precious” was a hit both commercially and with the critics and its release established Moore as an R&B artist. The album was certified gold and spawned the hits ‘Love’s Taken Over’ and ‘It’s Alright. For her work, Chanté received the NAACP Image Award for Outstanding New Artist of 1992. “A Love Supreme” came out in 1994 but, unfortunately, to fewer accolades. Chanté released her third album, “This Moment is Mine” in 1999. Her third album included her first Top 10 appearance on the Billboard Hot 100 with the song ‘Chanté’s Got a Man’. ‘Chanté’s Got a Man’ reached the number two position on the R&B Chart and became her signature hit song.

Chanté has followed up her earlier success with the release of three more solo studio albums. “Exposed” in 2000, “Love the Woman” in 2008, and “More is More” in 2013. Chanté also released two collaborative albums with the singer Kenny Lattimore. These records were titled “Things That Lover’s Do”, which was released in 2003, and “Uncovered/Covered, released in 2006.

In 2002, Chanté won Soul Train Music Awards Best R&B/Soul Single with the song ‘Contagious’. She also won the heart of her fans with R&B love songs and a double-CD of gospel music.

Chanté was awarded the NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Soundtrack Album in 1996. Chanté’s first Grammy Award also came in 1996 and it was for album of the year. Chanté won the American Music Award for Favorite Soundtrack in 1997. She was awarded another Grammy in 2002 for Best R&B Performance. That same year, Soul Train Track Music awarded her for Best R&B/Soul Single. She also received UB Honors for Best Independent R&B Album which was given for her album “Moore is More.”

In 2015, Chanté announced that she was working on a new solo album which would be her sixth release. She said that it would include new material as well as some remakes of previously released songs. In January of 2017, Chanté announced a new single entitled ‘Real One” which was released in February of that same year. In June of 2017, Chanté announced her seventh solo studio album “The Rise of the Phoenix”.
