Born on September 19, 1962 to father Gaetano Thomas Oteri in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Cheryl Ann Oteri spent most of her childhood days growing up in Upper Darby situated in Pennsylvania. She has three siblings, a sister named Denise Oteri and two brothers, Brian Oteri and Tommy Oteri Jr. She did her schooling from the Archbishop Prendergast High School in Pennsylvania. Cheri’s aunt is the famous production designer Barbara Pietsch. She lost her father in the year 2008, when he was murdered by his roommate and friend, songwriter Richard Fagan.
While in her high school, she got interested in music and shifted to Los Angeles at the age of 25 to pursue a career in the music field. She started working as a coordinator in the Promotion Department of the A & M Records. She became popular in her office for having a good sense of humor and one of her colleagues suggested her to give comedy a chance. After this suggestion, she went on to join the improve-sketch based comedy group The Groundlings.
During one of the nights with the group, she was spotted by Lorne Michaels, the producer of Saturday Night Live. She was asked to audition and she flew to New York for the audition. She was then cast as a member of the Saturday Nights Live and made her debut in the year 1995. She started playing a perky and overly hyper cheerleader Arianna. She also played the character Rita DelVecchio which was originally based on her grandmother. She is also known for the part of Cass Van Rye, the co-host of Morning Latte talk show. While on Saturday Night live, she was also famous for her celebrity impressions of Amy Fisher, Debbie Reynolds, Jennifer Lopez, Jessica Simpson, Barbara Walters, Mariah Carey, Yoko Ono and Paula Jones. She left Saturday Night Live in the year 2000.
She made her film debut with the movie Liar Liar in the year 1997 where she played the role of Jane. She is also popular for the role of Gail Hailstorm in the movie Scary Movie in the year 2000. She has done several movies in her career which include Lured Innocence as Molly in 1999, Inspector Gadget as Mayor Wilson in 1999, Sol Goode as Bernie Best in 2001, Dumb and Dumberer: When Harry Met Lloyd as Ms. Heller in 2003, Surviving Eden as Maria Villanova in 2004, Park as Claire in 2006, Surveillance as mom in 2008 and Bad Parents as Melissa in 2012.
She made her television debut in the year 1997 when she was cast for the role of Cindy in the television show Just Shoot Me!. She has worked on several television shows which includes Ally McBeal as Melissa in 2001, The Colin Quinn Show as the wife in 2002 and Curb Your Enthusiasm as Martine in 2002.
