Jessi Combs was born in the Black Hills of Rapid City, South Dakota. Even though her background had nothing to do with speed and racing, she found out from a very young age that she had a deep desire to drive a race car for a living.
After high school, Combs got a full scholarship to an interior design school. Since she stopped seeing herself as that type of woman, she moved to Denver to pursue a career in snowboarding. Shortly thereafter, she found the sport to be too physically demanding for her taste. She decided on a move to Laramie, Wyoming to study Collision Refinishing, Chassis Fabrication, Street Rod Fabrication, and Upholstery at the WyoTech college. She started to develop a passion for vehicles.
On August 27, 2019, Jessi Combs passed away in a fatal car crash.
Jessi Combs' boyfriend was Chris Jacobs. Chris met Combs when the two were called to co-host the sixth season of Overhaulin’ on the Discovery Channel.
Earlier in her dating life, while she featured for the show Xtreme 4x4, she met her ex-husband who was the co-host of the show, Ian Johnson. For the duration of the show, the TV celebrity was more than satisfied with their relationship. However, as Combs pursued a career as a television host, things got ugly between her and her husband, which led to their divorce.
Combs’ love of breaking land speed records isn’t without the risk of injuries. She once collided with a car and suffered multiple injuries. Although no fractures were reported, some cuts and bruises were observed on Comb’s body. As a consequence, the doctors had to resort to performing back surgery in order to fix the issues that were resulting from the injuries.
In another accident that happened in 2007, she was crushed by a large machine that fell on her, partially fracturing her spine. The doctors were glad that it wasn’t worse because that accident should have left Jessi in a wheelchair for the rest of her life. However, with excellent medical care and good rest, she stood back on her feet in less than a year.
