Personal Life

Joseph Jason Namakaeha Momoa was born in Honolulu, Hawaii on August 1, 1979. He was born on an artistic family. His mother Coni Lemke is a photographer, whereas his father Joseph Momoa is a painter. His father is Hawaiian and his mother from Iowa and Joseph has spent his early days on these 2 places. Being raised in Iowa, he moved back to his birth place when he entered high school.

Before acting, his particular looks and muscular tone had him the Hawaii's Model of the Year title in 1999. After that he participated in the Governor's Fashion Show walking Louis Vuitton and Liberty House Fashion Show.

His wife is also an actress. Lisa Bonet was born in San Francisco California and they both live in Los Angeles, raising their 2 children named Lola Iolani Momoa and Nakoa-Wolf Manakauapo Namakaeha Momoa. Joseph is also the step-father of Lisa’s daughter Zoë Isabella Kravitz whose father is the famous singer Lenny Kravitz.

Professional Career

He never seriously pursuit an acting career, yet he auditioned to perform on the TV series “Baywatch” and got a main role as Jason Ioane. He has been acting ever since.

His natural talent and unusual looks have granted him 27 credits up till now. He has also worked as producer, director and writer.

After “Baywatch” the TV series, he participated on the “Baywatch: Hawaiian Wedding” TV movie in 2003. “Tempted” had him play Kala on this same year.

After that he had the role of Frankie Sean on the TV series “North Shore” from 2004 to 2005, playing next “Startgate: Atlantis” until 2009 as Ronon Dex.

“The Game” had him in 4 episodes as Roman in 2009, to continue acting in “Game of Thrones”.

“Conan the Barbarian” had him impersonating the lead role of Conan in 2011. Later on he played a superhero Aquaman on “Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice”. This acting job gave him the stare for the announced film in 2018, “Aquaman”, and his current participation on “The Justice League”, to be launched in 2017.

Other unfinished projects include: “Braven”, “Going Under”, “The Bad Batch” and “Frontier” which are all on the post-production stage.

Nominations and Awards

The CinemaCon in USA recognized him in 2011 as Rising Star. The next year he was nominated along with a long list of actors for his participation on the TV Series Game of Thrones for their Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series.

“Game of Thrones” started airing in April 17, 2011 and is to be continued on its 8th season in 2017 with raising popularity. Joseph played Khal Drogo who is a warlord of the Dothraki tribe. Drogo appears as a born leader being one of the strongest characters during his appearance on the series between 2011 and 2012.
