Phillip Rivers

Philips Michael Rivers is an American football quarterback who plays for the San Diego chargers. Philip Rivers is dubbed as the most accurate and prolific quarterback of his era. While most people consider him as the tough and talented sportsperson, his opponents consider him rude and overrated.

Early life

The American football legend was born on December 8th 1981 in Decatur, Alabama. Philips father Steve was a high school football coach and his mother Joan was a teacher. Philip was attracted to basketball in his early years but his passion turned out to be American football.

High school and college years

Philips’s first official game was in his seventh grade in 1994. During his senior years he was considered as the best prep passer in the whole state of Alabama. The talented Rivers was recruited by the North Carolina State University. As a freshmen Rivers struggled to adjust to the new conditions but recovered speedily and went on to break several records. He was the ACC rookie of the week for record eight times and also earned the honour as the conference freshman of the year. He proved his exceptional leadership qualities when in 2002, he led his team to a record 9 wins in 10 games which was the best start in school history. In 2004 Philip passed for 3,054 yards and 25 touchdowns. During his four years Philip started 51 straight games and holds the conference record of 1,147 passes in 1,710 tries with 95 TD’s.

NFL achievements

Philip Rivers was drafted in the first round of the 2004 NFL draft. He was the fourth overall pick by the New York Giants and was traded to the San Diego Chargers for their overall pick quarterback Eli Manning. In his first season as a starter Rivers led the chargers to a 14-2 record. In 2002, he was instrumental in helping the chargers win their first playoff game since 1994 after beating the Tennessee Titans. In 2014, he led the chargers to a record nine wins which also included an early season win over defending super bowl champions-Seattle Seahawks. Rivers holds record for posting passer rating of above 120 for five straight games. He was named as the most valuable player for the chargers for a sixth time in his career when he passed 4,286 yards and 31 touchdowns. He holds 16th place on the NFL’s all-time list for touchdown passes and 20th place on the NFL’’s all-time list for career passing yards. Rivers is just 3 more touchdown passes short to overtake Dan Fouts as the charger’s all-time leader in terms of touchdown passes. In 2014 Rivers started 144 straight regular season games. It is the longest active streak behind Eli manning’s streak of 168. Rivers is all time Charger’s leader in terms of career completion percentage and passer rating. He has started every game since 2006. Even after undergoing surgery for an injured ACL, he started the 2007 AFC championship game.

Personal life

Rivers married his high school sweet heart Tiffany Goodwin. They have eight children together. The whole family resides in San Diego, California. Rivers is a devoted roman catholic. His wife turned to catholic faith after the marriage. As of 2016, Rivers has an estimated net worth of $35 million.
